Notice: Rothesay’s Recycling Program will be Managed by Circular Materials

April 30, 2024

Rothesay’s recycling program will now be managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in New Brunswick.

Circular Materials is assisting New Brunswick’s transition to the new extended producer responsibility (ERP) framework. EPR shifts the financial and operational responsibility of recycling programs to brand owners – those that produce and supply packaging and paper product materials to residents.

Below you will find information on how this shift will impact you.

NO Change to Curbside Collection Schedules, Materials, or Service Provider

FERO will continue to service Rothesay residents by collecting the weekly garbage, recycling, and compost pickups. As well, FERO will continue to complete the collection for the Spring and Fall clean-ups. If you have any questions, concerns, or issues with your curbside collections, please contact FERO.

There are NO CHANGES to your curbside collection, including the materials you can recycle or to the curbside collection schedules as a result of this program.

As part of this transition, residents can expect to have a convenient, consistent, and effective recycling system that will improve recycling rates – benefiting people and our planet.

Recycle MORE at Redemption Centres

Circular Materials is collaborating with the Eastern Recycler’s Association’s network of redemption centres across New Brunswick for a convenient way to recycle additional material free of charge.

What does this mean for Rothesay residents? You will now be able to recycle MORE items at redemption centres in New Brunswick, including locally at:

  • Valley Redemption Centre, located at 1 Market Street, Quispamsis, NB (Next to Foodland)
  • Fundy Redemption Centre, located at 18 Egbert Street, Saint John, NB
  • Pub’s Bottle Exchange, located at 346 Rothesay Avenue, Saint John, NB

Materials such as glass, polystyrene foam, beverage cardboard and flexible plastics are now accepted at participating redemption centres. Please do not include these materials in your curbside recycling collection as they are only accepted at the redemption centres.
