Wells Community Centre Official Opening Marks a Milestone for Rothesay

December 15, 2023 – Rothesay, NB

Today, Rothesay Mayor Dr. Nancy Grant announced the Official Opening of the new Wells Community Centre located at 75 French Village Road. She was joined by Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John-Rothesay, and the Honourable Ted Flemming, Attorney General, Minister of Justice, and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Rothesay.

Nestled amidst the scenic beauty of Wells Recreation Park, the new 2,600-square-foot Community Centre, designed by Acre Architects, represents the culmination of the vision for an integrated park, tying together diverse amenities for the benefit of the community. It will serve as a central hub, complementing existing features like the fenced-in dog park, multiple sports fields, playground, and the extensive network of multipurpose trails. The new building includes community event space, a residential kitchen, public park washrooms, and a 1,150-square-foot covered canopy for outdoor gatherings.

Rothesay Council confirmed their support for the schematic design proposal of the new Wells Community Centre project at the June 13th, 2022, Council meeting. Rothesay received a $500,000 non-repayable contribution through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and $486,000 from the New Brunswick Regional Development Corporation (RDC), contributing to the realization of this important community project.

The Wells Community Centre stands as a significant investment in the well-being and growth of the community, serving as a hub for recreation, learning, and social activities for residents of all ages. Today’s open house gathered people together to celebrate the culmination of hard work, collaboration, and community that brought the Centre to fruition.
