Town of Rothesay Awards Design and Construction Management Services for RICC
Rothesay, NB
February 10th, 2026
At its regular meeting on Monday, February 9, Rothesay Town Council took a major step forward in the development of the Rothesay Intergenerational Community Complex (RICC) by awarding Design and Construction Management services to Stantec Architecture Ltd. in the amount of $3,242,461.33.
The award marks the transition of the RICC project into the detailed design phase, following an extensive Request for Proposals process. Stantec will serve as the prime consultant for the project, providing leadership and continuity through both design and construction.
Mayor Nancy Grant said the decision reflects Council’s strong commitment to delivering a high-quality, community-focused facility.
“This is an exciting and important milestone for Rothesay,” said Mayor Grant. “The RICC is a generational investment in our community, and awarding this contract moves us from planning into action. Stantec brings a strong reputation and national experience that will help ensure this project is designed thoughtfully and delivered with care.”
Stantec is a nationally recognized firm with extensive experience in large-scale, complex recreation and community infrastructure projects across Canada. Their appointment allows the Town to begin detailed design work immediately, including collaboration with municipal staff and public consultation to help shape the final design of the facility.
Chief Administrative Officer Brett McLean emphasized the importance of this phase in ensuring the project’s long-term success.
“Moving into detailed design is a critical step,” said McLean. “This phase will allow us to refine the facility’s layout, confirm technical requirements, and engage the community in meaningful ways. Having Stantec on board as our prime consultant gives us confidence as we move forward with a project of this scale and complexity.”
The Rothesay Intergenerational Community Complex will replace the Town’s 54-year-old arena and is envisioned as a modern, inclusive hub featuring a new arena, indoor walking track, the Rothesay HIVE, and multi-use community spaces designed to serve residents of all ages and abilities.
The Town remains on track for a target opening of Winter 2028.
The RICC project continues to be supported by municipal leadership, federal and provincial governments, and an active community fundraising campaign led by a volunteer Campaign Board.
