May 17th, 2018 – For immediate release:

Tool library wants what’s in your garage

Saint John – The Saint John Tool Library and DIY Centre (SJTL) is excited to announce a tool drive and crowdfunding campaign starting May 17th. Local citizens can help: SJTL wants New Brunswickers to clear the cobwebs in their garages and basements and donate quality tools that are no longer getting the use they deserve. Those without tools can still help by donating to our crowdfunding campaign on www.sjtl.ca.

By donating tools or money for tools, donors can make home repair more affordable for Saint Johners. SJTL is a local social enterprise aiming to revitalize the city by giving residents low-cost subscription-style access to quality tools for repairs and renovations.

“We seek to be change-makers for the city of Saint John and area,” says Brent Harris, SJTL founder. “We believe in reducing our environmental footprint through sharing and waste reduction, and by repairing and redeeming broken things, we can see neighbourhoods revitalized too. Our dream is that the tool library becomes a space where people can access opportunities to build and grow.”

Members of the tool library will be able to purchase annual “subscriptions” that allow them to borrow the tools they need rather than buying them. Gathering used tools for the library from Saint John area citizens ensures those tools will be put to good use.

SJTL wants to get the word out to as many New Brunswickers as possible so they can get started on spring cleaning, donate their tools, help their neighbours, and join the sharing revolution. Interested donors can call 1-506-608-6885 to arrange pickup or dropoff of tools at SJTL’s soon-to-open library and workshop space at 160 Union St. in Saint John. Money can be donated in person or online at www.sjtl.ca

The Saint John Tool Library and DIY Centre is on a mission to revitalize the city by making tools and the skills to use them accessible for every resident. SJTL believes that access to the right tools at a fair price builds better neighbourhoods and healthier communities.
