Rothesay Council Highlights — September 15, 2026

Starting this month, Rothesay will be publishing highlights after every regular council meeting. Our goal is to keep residents informed about what’s happening at Town Hall, while remaining open and transparent.

Here are the highlights from our regular council meeting on September 14, 2026.

Opening Remarks
Mayor Alexander opened the meeting with a story about the history of First Nations travel in this region — a reminder that long before roads and highways, the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, and Peskotomuhkati Nations built an extensive transportation network across what is now New Brunswick. Their waterways, portage routes, and trails reflected generations of knowledge of this land, and remain an important part of the cultural and historical heritage of our region.

Recognition
Congratulations to Nick Kilfoil, winner of the 13th Annual Through the Lens Photo Contest. Nick was presented with an official certificate at the opening of the meeting.

Decisions & Motions

Council approved a proclamation recognizing Rail Safety Week 2026, running September 21–27.

Council approved an in-kind donation of $910 to Fundy Soccer and a $500 sponsorship to KV Association for Community Living.

Council took the next step in rezoning 88 Hampton Road to Central Commercial, with a public hearing scheduled for September 28, 2026.

The Cameron Road rezoning public hearing has been scheduled for October 26, 2026.

The Sagamore Heights rezoning public hearing has been cancelled at the request of the applicant, who has asked for additional time to revise their proposal.

Council also approved the installation of structural lining in a cross culvert on Weeden Avenue, rehabilitating the existing infrastructure.

Floatway Update
The East Riverside FloatWalk will begin coming down the week of September 21. What a first season — a big thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the new addition to Rothesay!
