Phone Scam Alert: Beware of Calls from Area Code 1-876
There has been an increase in scam calls targeting bank clients. Scammers are calling from the 1-876 area code (Jamaica) posing as bank representatives. This area code can be easily mistaken for legitimate toll-free numbers like 1-800, 1-866, or 1-888, especially at a quick glance.
If you receive a call from 1-876:
- Do not answer, if possible.
- If you do answer and the caller claims to be from your bank, hang up immediately.
- Your bank will never ask you to verify sensitive information (account numbers, PINs, passwords) over an unsolicited phone call.
If you’re ever unsure a call is legitimate, hang up and call your bank directly using the number on the back of your card or their official website.
