Notice: Wastewater Treatment Project Update
August 1, 2025
Rothesay is beginning the initial phase of construction activities related to the new Wastewater Treatment Facility that is planned to treat community wastewater. This project will see the existing community sewage treatment lagoons on Maliseet Drive replaced with a new modern treatment system that provides a much higher level of treatment performance.
The initial construction activities will include bypassing existing lagoon cell No.1 at the Fairvale Lagoon site, over which the new facility will be constructed. Bypassed wastewater will be directed to lagoon cell No.2 for the duration of the construction period, estimated to take up to three years. Rothesay will be upgrading lagoon Cell No.2 with new equipment to temporarily enhance treatment performance, so that treated effluent discharged from the Fairvale lagoon site during the construction period will provide similar treatment to current operation.
Rothesay is required to provide this notification to residents of their intent to apply for a Temporary Bypass Authorization based on Federal regulations. Should you have any questions related to the planned temporary bypass, or would like to have further discussions via an in-person or virtual meeting, please contact:
