Council Members

Dr. Nancy Grant was first elected to Rothesay Council in 2012 and served her first term on Council as Deputy Mayor. During that time, she chaired the Personnel and Procedural Bylaw Review Committees, as well as the Special Committee on Rail Safety.  She also served on the Finance and Nominating Committees, and the Board of the Kennebecasis Public Library.

Dr. Grant was elected as Mayor of Rothesay in 2016 and was re-elected in 2021. Mayor Grant serves on the Personnel, Finance, Emergency Measures and Nominating Committee. She is a Board member of the Fundy Regional Service Commission and Regional Facilities Commission and represents Rothesay on numerous regional committees.

Nancy is a native New Brunswicker and received a Bachelor of Science from Mount Allison University. She received her Medical degree from Queen’s University and her Masters in Administration from Central Michigan University. She holds an Honorary DSc from UNBSJ. Dr. Grant is a retired Radiation Oncologist.

A long-time Rothesay resident, Nancy has also been a volunteer with many community organizations, including United Way, Imperial Theatre, Symphony New Brunswick, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, and Mount Allison University. Her major volunteer work was the founding and developing of Hospice of Saint John, for which she was a recipient of the inaugural Order of New Brunswick (2002). In 2010, Nancy was named One of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women (Women’s Executive Network) for her work on achieving Atlantic Canada’s first residential hospice.

In 2012, Nancy was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her contributions to the community.

Nancy and her husband, Dr. Steven Bryniak, raised their two children, both health care professionals, in Rothesay. They also have one grandchild. They enjoy travel, when time permits, and Nancy is an amateur musician and member of Saint Mary’s Band.

Deputy Mayor Matt Alexander will be serving his third term as a member of Rothesay Council. He has a passion to continue improving our community and working to implement community climate change adaptation initiatives.

Matt received an Environmental Engineering Diploma from Sault College (1998), a B.Sc. (Honours) from St. Francis Xavier University (2000), a Diploma in University Teaching from UNB (2004), and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from UNB (2006). Professionally, Matt is a Partner and Environmental Scientist at Fundy Engineering where he works to protect and conserve water resources that sustain, employ, and entertain us.

Deputy Mayor Alexander currently chairs the Rothesay Works and Utilities Committee, he is the past-chair of the Regional Police Commission, and he serves on the Rothesay Finance Committee and Rothesay Personnel Committee. In 2013/2014 he chaired a regional committee that recommended curbside recycling be implemented throughout the greater Saint John region.

Matt’s wife Sarah is a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Operating Room at the Saint John Regional Hospital. They live on Silverton Crescent in the heart of Rothesay with their two high-energy fun-loving Brittanys, Kedj and Kip, which you may see Matt walking daily along Rothesay Road. When Sarah and Matt aren’t biking, paddling, hiking, or curling, you’ll find them fly fishing, relaxing at the cottage, or spending time with friends and family near and (when not in a pandemic) far.

Councillor Tiffany Mackay French lives in the beautiful town on Rothesay with her husband, three school-aged boys, and dog. She was elected to Rothesay Town Council in both 2016 and 2021. Tiffany holds degrees in Fine Arts, Education, Law, and a Master in Laws specializing in Dispute Resolution.

Tiffany has worked in publishing, as a high school teacher, and currently as both a Town councillor and lawyer. Tiffany is the co-founder of See Jane Run (a grassroots organization to promote and support women in leadership roles or running for political office), the New Brunswick Branch Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Forum, the Vice-Chair of the Kennebecasis Regional Joint Board of Police Commissioners, and serves on the Rothesay Planning Advisory Committee, Rothesay Heritage Preservation Review Board, Rothesay Personnel Committee, and Parent School Support Committees (PSSC) for both Rothesay High School and Rothesay Park School.

Tiffany is a very active contributor to her community and fundraises for various local charities. Tiffany’s greatest pride is her three sons. She enjoys swimming and biking, and nothing brings her more joy than cooking and celebrating life with her family and friends.

Councillor Bill McGuire is serving his third term on Rothesay Council. He was first elected in 2012. He served as a community representative on the Kennebecasis Regional Joint Board of Police Commissioners for 10 years (Chair 2014) and as a member of Rothesay Parks and Recreation Committee for 16 years (Chair for 13 years).

Bill serves on the Rothesay Emergency Measures Committee, Rothesay Nominating Committee, Personnel Committee and the Rothesay Parks and Recreation Committee.

Bill is married to Sandra and they have two daughters. He has been employed for over 30 years with Coast Tire (commercial business development).

Interests include golf, hockey, squash and all other sports. Bill has completed 11 full marathons including two Boston Marathons.

Councillor Dave Brown is serving his first term on Rothesay Council. He is a fourth generation resident of the Valley and has owned several small businesses serving the area over the last twenty years.

Dave serves on the Board of Fire Commissioners (KVFD), the Pro Kids Board of Directors, the Rothesay Personnel Committee and the Rothesay Works and Utilities Committee.

Dave enjoys anything automotive-related, solving problems and taking on new challenges.

Councillor Helen Boyle is serving her first term on Rothesay Council. She is a graduate of St. Thomas University and also attended the University of Dublin (Ireland) and the University of Guelph (Ontario).

Helen serves on the Rothesay Finance Committee, Rothesay Hive Advisory Committee and the Rothesay Parks and Recreation Committee.

Helen and her husband have two children and she is the tenth of twelve siblings. She has been an active community volunteer with hockey, figure skating and high school drama productions. Helen owned and operated a business in Ontario and now has a small batch ice cream business and works part time as a teacher.

Helen enjoys sewing, cooking, kayaking and staying active.

Councillor Peter Lewis is serving his third term on Rothesay Council. He was first elected in 2012. Peter serves on the Board of Fire Commissioners (KVFD), the Rothesay Emergency Measures Committee and Nominating Committee.

Peter has been a resident of Rothesay and area since 1992 and has always felt Rothesay was his home. His family was raised in Wells (Rothesay East area), where he now has his home. Peter has two children who also live in Rothesay.

Peter has been a local businessman in the community for over 20 years – building, operating and selling 3 successful businesses and working on Business #4 with the help of his son, Taylor. Councillor Lewis says “Being able to work alongside my son is beyond anything I ever expected in life.”

This is Don’s fourth term on Rothesay Council. Active in the community, Don was a founding member of the KV Old Boys and has served on not-for-profit boards at the local, provincial and national levels.

Previous committee experience includes: Rothesay Recreation Committee, Fundy Region Solid Waste Commission, Regional Board of Police Commissioners and the Maine-New Brunswick Southern Trade Corridor Committee.

Don serves on the Kennebecasis Public Library Board, Rothesay Finance Committee and the Rothesay Planning Advisory Committee.

Don has attended St. Thomas University, University of New Brunswick and the University of Alberta. In addition to his 30+ years of teaching in the public school system, Don has taught extension courses for STU, UNB and the community college system.

Don currently works part time as the New Brunswick representative for Product Care.
