In Memory of Peter H. “Tom” Young - A Message From Rothesay Council and Staff
Peter H. “Tom” Young
Rothesay, NB - Rothesay Town flags will be flown at half-mast until Friday in memory of former Councillor Tom Young, who passed away Monday, March 6.
"Tom will always be remembered as a very public radio figure, but there were other sides to him,” said Rothesay Mayor Nancy Grant.
Tom and Diana lived for many years in Kennebecasis Park, raising their three children in the Kennebecasis Valley. Tom is best remembered for his five decades on the airwaves but he also believed in giving back to his community. Tom said, of his decision to enter politics, “I viewed it as a contribution to the Town. You should aim to leave the community better than what it was when you found it.”
Tom spent 17 years doing just that – he served on the Village of Renforth Council 1986-1992 (one term as Councillor and one term as Mayor). He continued his public service after amalgamation (1998) and served three consecutive terms on Rothesay Council, from 2001 to 2012.
Following his retirement, he and Diana moved to Newfoundland to be closer to their grandchildren. Mayor Grant commented, “Tom was also a family man, and we are proud that he and Diana raised their family in Rothesay, while being good friends and neighbors to many. Those who knew Tom well will remember his kindness, his generosity and his big heart. And certainly his sense of humour!”
Our sincere condolences to Diana, his children and his grandchildren.
